Variety is thrilled to have Compeer as the December Featured Grant Recipient!

Compeer promotes good mental health through meaningful friendships. Each of the four core programs focus on friendship and supportive relationships to encourage mental wellness. These include one-on-one volunteer mentoring, group mentoring activities, school-based mentoring, and Mental Health First Aid training. Compeer Buffalo is the international headquarters.

Serving Buffalo and all of Erie County, the Compeer Buffalo Youth Program matches volunteers in one-to-one relationships with children and youth striving for good mental health. Compeer volunteers make a significant and proven impact on the lives of those they befriend by providing social support, being positive role models and helping engage their friend in a variety of different community/recreational activities. The matches participate in various community activities and Compeer sponsors monthly group mentoring activities in order to provide a circle of friendship and support.

This is the second year that the Variety Club has donated space, food and talent to provide a fun and positive holiday party for the Compeer clients, volunteers and their families. The party provides an opportunity for youth to celebrate the holidays with friends and family while being surrounded by supportive peers and applying their social engagement skills.
