Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. In WNY, we have been a leader in one-to-one youth service for over 45 years, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that in every child is incredible potential.  We have matched over 11,000 local children with caring adults.  Big Brothers Big Sisters aims to make meaningful, monitored matches between volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles) in Erie, Niagara and the Southern Tier.  These quality relationships are built on friendship and trust and are proven to be a significant positive influence in the life of the child and the volunteer.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara and the Southern Tier helps youth between the ages of 5-18 achieve success in school, helps them avoid risky behaviors and helps them improve their confidence.  Research has shown that the relationships between youth and a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors have a direct and measurable impact.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara and the Southern Tier (BBBS), the safety of our staff, volunteers, and the children and families we serve is always our top priority. COVID-19 has impacted the ability of our Bigs and Littles to spend time together in person, however our Bigs have been doing an incredible job coming up with really creative ways to stay connected. They are calling each other on the phone, texting, video chatting and even mailing letters to stay connected.

Children need Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring now more than ever. With schools being closed and social isolation, it is especially important for kids to have someone to talk to and can help them stay positive. Having a mentor means someone to talk to, someone who is a guiding force, someone who is there to help defend the potential inherent in every child.

The grant from the Variety Club is helping keep kids connected with the support of their Big Brother or Big Sister during a time when they need it the most.
