Camp Good Days and Special Times, commonly known as Camp Good Days (CGD), provides residential, summer camping programs at a recreational facility located on the shores of Keuka Lake in Branchport, New York. Now in their 40th year, Camp Good Days offers year-round recreational and support activities, in the Rochester, Buffalo, Ithaca and Syracuse, New York areas for children and families that are battling cancer. CGD provides services for children with cancer, children who have a parent or sibling with cancer and children who have lost a parent or sibling to cancer. Their cancer programs are also open to children touched by sickle cell anemia. Generously, all of the programs and services are offered free of charge to the participants.
Pediatric cancer easily has the ability to turn an entire families life upside down. From simple communication with the child, to more consuming events like doctors visits and radiation treatments, the effects of this horrifying disease takes a toll on all of those touched by it. At Camp Good Days, the goal is for participants to have the opportunity to regain some of what cancer has taken away from them. Today, Camp Good Days remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life threatening challenges through residential camping experiences.
Over the years, Camp Good Days has become one of the largest organizations of its kind in the United States with many of their programs and services being used as a model for other cancer treatment centers, camps and organizations around the world. No child with cancer is ever turned away from Camp Good Days. Their programs are offered free of charge for the campers because of the support and generosity of many individuals, businesses and successful fundraisers that are hosted throughout the year.
While Camp Good Days may not find a cure for cancer or other life threatening challenges, everything is done in an effort to create some good days and special times for the children and families served. Camp Good Days is a celebration of life, with those who have learned to appreciate it the most… a place where courage knows no boundaries.
Over the years Variety has partnered with Camp Good Days to bring smiles to their campers throughout the year. The money Variety donates to Camp Good Days impacts local children effected by cancer. In 2019, Variety was able to purchase new tables for the Community Dining Hall. The dining hall is a place where campers socialize and eat their meals together. These dining tables are an integral part of the experience at Camp Good Day in terms of building camaraderie.
